Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Sept. 11

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff today, Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 in honor of a Kentucky soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Pfc. Brandon S. Mullins, 21, of Owensboro, Ky., died Aug. 25 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Funeral services for Pfc. Mullins will be held on Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. Central time at Good Shepherd Church in Owensboro.  Burial services will immediately follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
