Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on July 29

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff Friday, July 29, 2011 in honor of a Kentucky native and Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Jeremy R. Summers, 27, of Mount Olivet, Ky., died July 14 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, after enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire on July 13.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Sgt. Summers will be held on July 29 at 11 a.m. Eastern time in Cynthina, Ky.  Burial services will immediately follow at Battle Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana.  Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
