Gov. Beshear Applauds Forbes List of Best Cities for Business
FRANKFORT, Ky.—“As a life-long Kentuckian, I’ve always bragged that Kentucky is a great place to do business. Now the word is spreading thanks to Forbes Magazine, which just named three Kentucky cities to its ‘Best Places for Business and Careers’ list. The ranking of Lexington at No. 4 and Louisville at No. 14, as well as Bowling Green at No. 5 on the small towns list, shows the depth of Kentucky’s labor force, our strength of our universities and our innovative economic development programs which are attracting businesses from around the world.
In summer 2009, I implemented an overhaul of our state's antiquated economic development tools designed to not only help us attract new businesses but also to help our existing businesses grow. Since then, we have used those performance-based incentives programs to give preliminary approval to more than 330 projects that could create over 19,400 new jobs and retain an additional 6,200 existing Kentucky jobs. Those projects represent potential investment in the Commonwealth of nearly $3.4 billion -- a spectacular success story for our state and one that continues to pay dividends.
Clearly, Kentucky makes it easy to do business, and we are only getting better.”
