Gov. Beshear Participates in Ribbon Cutting for Breckinridge County Farmers’ Market
HARDINSBURG, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear today participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Breckinridge County Farmers’ Market. During the ceremony, the Governor presented the farmers’ market with a sign from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF) to show consumers that the market is a KADF investment.
“As Governor, I am proud and honored to serve as chairman of the Agricultural Development Board because I know the importance of this fund to the future of our farmers,” said Gov. Beshear. “I am committed to creating opportunities that will provide markets for Kentucky producers and access to locally-grown foods to Kentuckians. Projects supported by the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, such as this one, play an integral role in this effort.”
The Breckinridge County Extension District Board on behalf of the Breckinridge County Farmers’ Market received a $75,000 grant from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund to help build the new facility. To date, more than $340 million in Kentucky Agricultural Development Funds have been invested in an array of state, regional and county projects throughout the Commonwealth.
“Investments in community farmers’ markets across the Commonwealth continue to play a key role in the local-foods movement and providing additional markets for Kentucky products,” said GOAP Executive Director Roger Thomas.
In addition to housing the farmers’ market, the facility will also provide space for agricultural workshops, such as 4-H, livestock conditioning scoring, forage testing and identification and more.
