Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on June 6

FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff today, June 6, 2011, in honor of a Fort Knox soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Louie A. Ramos Velazquez, 39, of Camuy, Puerto Rico died May 26th of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Burial services for Sgt. Ramos Velaquez will be held today at 12:30 p.m. at Remanso de Paz Cemetery in Camuy, Puerto Rico.  Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
