FRANKFORT, Ky.– The following statements are from Gov. Steve Beshear and Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo on the passing of former Kentucky State Representative Eddie Ballard:

“Rep. Eddie Ballard was a stalwart and a leader in his community of Madisonville and Hopkins County, and it was a privilege to call him my friend. Eddie was an outstanding legislator who worked across party lines for the benefit of our great Commonwealth, and he was a fierce advocate for our veterans.  Just last year, I was honored to sign a resolution renaming the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in his honor.  Because of his long history of service in Kentucky’s House of Representatives, I have directed state flags to be lowered on the day of his interment.  Our state is a better place because of Eddie Ballard’s work on behalf of all Kentuckians.  Our thoughts are with his wife, Rae, and his family and friends.”  - Gov. Beshear

“I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Eddie Ballard. He was a man who believed in serving his constituents and standing up for the people of Kentucky, especially those who lived in the Western part of the state.  I got a chance to know Rep. Ballard while serving as a state senator and on the campaign trail. He was a true statesman and worked hard on the things he believed in most: veterans affairs, economic development and tourism. He could always see the big picture and knew what it would take for Kentucky to move ahead.  My prayers go out to Eddie’s wife, Rae, and their entire family. With his passing we are diminished.” – Lt. Gov. Mongiardo
