Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on May 3
FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. John P. Castro, 25, of Andrews, Texas died April 22 at Paktika province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by small arms fire. He was assigned to1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Sgt. Castro will be held on May 3 at 1 p.m. Central time at Fort Campbell. Burial services will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Ky. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
