Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on April 28

FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, April 28, 2011 in honor of a Fort Knox soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Spc. Joseph A. Kennedy, 25, of St. Paul, Minn. died April 15, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Ky.

Funeral services for Spc. Kennedy will be held on April 28 at 10 a.m. Central time at the Church of St. Patrick in Inver Grove Heights, Minn.  Burial services will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.  Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
