Gov. Beshear announces Miller to resign as Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary, Flanery appointed new Secretary
Resignation effective March 31, 2011
FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear today announced that Jonathan Miller, secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet, has submitted his resignation to serve as Senior Advisor to Wellford Energy, a firm dedicated to helping develop and finance clean energy projects across the country, and to join the Lexington law offices of Frost Brown Todd LLC.
“As secretary of Finance, Jonathan has been an exceptional leader and a vital member of my cabinet,” said Gov. Beshear. “He has been a relentless advocate in advancing transparency, efficiency and energy conservation in state government through so many initiatives. I appreciate his unending service and commitment to our Commonwealth and to this administration, and am thankful for his service on the Kentucky Public Pension Working Group, the Kentucky Asset/Liability Commission (ALCo), his leadership in the creation of Open Door, Kentucky’s nationally recognized e-transparency site, and his enthusiastic service as a board member helping launch our state’s success in the 2010 World Equestrian Games.”
“While I couldn't be more excited about my new endeavors, I will miss the people with whom I've been working as secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet,” said Miller. “Most of all, I will miss working with the Governor and First Lady. Steve and Jane Beshear are two of the finest, most compassionate people I have ever encountered inside of politics and out. Kentucky is so fortunate to have their leadership.” Miller’s last day with the Cabinet is March 31, 2011.
Gov. Beshear has named Lori Hudson Flanery as the new Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary. She has served as deputy secretary of the Cabinet since December 2007. Flanery will assume the appointment as secretary on April 1, 2011. In addition to serving as deputy secretary for the past three years, Flanery also serves as the interim Chief Information Office (CIO) for the Commonwealth. Governor Beshear appointed Flanery the vice-chair of the Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority and she also serves on the Affordable Housing Trust Fund committee, the Kentucky YMCA and the Recovery Kentucky Task Force.
“Lori has been a talented and reliable part of our team during the past three years as deputy secretary, and is truly a rising star in my administration,” said Gov. Beshear. “I am confident that she will continue with such tenacity as secretary of the Finance Cabinet.”
Flanery’s former posts include deputy CEO and general counsel for Kentucky Housing Corporation, commissioner of financial incentives for the Cabinet for Economic Development and bond counsel with Peck, Shaffer & Williams LLP. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky (UK) and also holds a Juris Doctorate from UK. She resides in Louisville with her family.
“I look forward to continuing my service to this administration and to the Finance and Administration Cabinet,” said Flanery. “It has been a privilege to work with Jonathan and I am honored that Gov. Beshear has asked me to assume the role as cabinet secretary.”
