Governor’s visit is in support of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Governor Steve Beshear today visited hospitalized veterans at the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center  located in Louisville. Gov. Beshear’s visit is in support of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week, which is Feb. 13-19, 2011.

“I encourage all Kentuckians to salute our veterans this week by visiting them in the VA medical centers in Louisville and Lexington, at our state veterans nursing homes or one of the many VA clinics throughout the state,” Gov. Beshear said.

The annual VA National Salute program began in 1978 when the VA took over sponsorship of a program started in 1974 by the humanitarian organization No Greater Love Inc. Members of the VA’s voluntary service staff plan and execute local events and activities at VA medical centers.  The National Salute is observed annually during the week of Valentine’s Day, a day of caring and sharing that underscore the National Salute’s expression of honor and appreciation to inpatient and outpatient Veterans.
