Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Dec. 11

FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Curtis A. Oakes, 29, of Athens, Ohio died Nov. 29, in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an insurgent attacked his unit with small arms fire.  He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Oakes will he held on Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time at Jagers and Son Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio.  Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
