Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Dec. 9
FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. 1st Class Barry E. Jarvis, 36, of Tell City, Ind. died Nov. 29, in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an insurgent attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Sgt. Jarvis will be held at Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. Central time at Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City, Ind. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
