FRANKFORT, Ky.– The Finance and Administration Cabinet, along with the Frankfort Plant Board, have delivered the Commonwealth Christmas tree to the State Capitol. The 28-foot Norway Spruce stands in front of the State Capitol building and will be lit during the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 4, following the Frankfort Jaycees Christmas Parade.

This year’s tree was donated by Tom and Marilyn Grissom of Frankfort.  Tom retired as the director of the Division of Correctional Industries in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. Marilyn is a former teacher retired from the Franklin County Public Schools system.

The Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on Dec. 4 on the Capitol steps at approximately 7:30 p.m. immediately following the parade, which will begin at 6 p.m. Entertainment for the tree lighting ceremony will be provided by the Frankfort Children Singers.  After the ceremony, the Western Hills High School Choir will be singing carols in the Capitol Rotunda and the Franklin County High School Chamber Choir will perform at the Governor’s Mansion.

Those in attendance will include Gov. Steve Beshear, First Lady Jane Beshear, Frankfort Mayor Gippy Graham, Franklin County Judge Executive Ted Collins and a special visit from Santa Claus. The event is free and open to the public.
