Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Oct. 23

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Spc. David A. Hess, 25, of Ruskin, Fla. died Oct. 10 of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.  He was assigned to the 526th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Spc. Hess will be held on Oct. 23 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time at South Parkersburg Church in Parkersburg, W. Va.  Burial services will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jackson County, W.Va.  Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
