Oct. 11-Oct. 15 proclaimed Kentucky Public Service Recognition Week

FRANKFORT, Ky.—Recognizing the contributions public employees make to the Commonwealth is essential during the annual Kentucky Public Service Recognition Week, held this year from Oct. 11 through Oct.15.  First Lady Jane Beshear today participated in the week’s events by hosting the second annual Governor’s Ambassador Awards ceremony, where nine public service employees were recognized for their contributions to the state.

“Kentucky employees demonstrate a commitment to public service that is unparalleled, as proven by today's award winners,” said Mrs. Beshear. “I am honored to take part in recognizing these outstanding individuals, who are a tremendous asset to the Commonwealth.”

Created in October 2008, the awards program was established to highlight stories of employees who have positively impacted the lives of their co-workers, customers and community. Nominations were accepted throughout the year in six categories: customer service, courage, leadership, professional achievement, teamwork or community service and volunteerism.

All nominations were reviewed by a selection committee and three finalists were chosen in each category.  Mrs. Beshear, along with Personnel Cabinet Secretary Nikki Jackson, served as co-chairs of the selection committee.  Governor Beshear selected the six overall winners in each category.  All names were removed from the submissions to ensure fairness and anonymity.

“Our public employees are resilient, talented professionals who continuously strive to serve the people of this great Commonwealth ,” Secretary Jackson said. “This week’s intent is to remind us to stop and take time to say thank you to public employees; to recognize both their contributions to the workplace and our communities.”

All nominees were invited to attend today’s ceremony.  Award recipients will be honored by having a personalized engraved brick placed along Ambassador Avenue outside the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.
