Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Oct. 8

FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Justin A. Officer, 26, of Wichita, Kan., died Sept. 29 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.  He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Sgt. Officer will be held on Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Mountain time at Prussman Chapel at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Co.   Burial services will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
