Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Sept. 28
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Joshua D. Powell, 25, of Pleasant Plains, Ill. died in a helicopter crash Sept. 21 during combat operations in Zabul province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 6th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Powell will be held on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Central time at United Methodist Church in Springfield, Ill. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
