Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Sept. 27
FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 in honor of a Kentucky native and Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, 1st Lt. Eric Yates, 26, of Rineyville, Ky., died Sept. 18 in the Zhari district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for 1st Lt. Yates will be held on Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern time at St. James Catholic Church in Elizabethtown, Ky. Burial services will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
