Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Aug. 28
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 in honor of a Kentucky native sailor who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Collin Thomas, 33, of Morehead, Ky., died Aug. 18 during a combat operation in eastern Afghanistan. Thomas was assigned to an east coast-based SEAL team.
Funeral services for Chief Petty Officer Thomas will be held on Aug. 28 at 4 p.m. Eastern time at the Academic-Athletics Center at Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. Burial services will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in Morehead. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
