Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Aug. 16

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Leston M. Winters, 30, of Sour Lake, Texas died July 15 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Burial services for Sgt. Winters will be held on Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. Eastern time at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.  Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
