Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on July 24
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, July 24, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Shaun M. Mittler, 32, of Austin, Texas, died July 10 in Konar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit using a rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Sgt. Mittler will be held on July 24 at 1 p.m. Central time at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, Mo. Burial services will immediately follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Gladstone, Mo. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
