FRANKFORT, Ky.  – “This afternoon, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission took an important step toward helping our state’s endangered horse industry by approving changes to regulations to allow historic racing bets at our state’s racetracks.

The regulations will provide an additional tool that Kentucky horse racing tracks can use to draw people to their venue, to supplement purses and to assist horsemen who are struggling but want to race in Kentucky.

The horse industry supplies 100,000 jobs in our state and creates $4 billion in economic impact, making it a significant contributor to our state’s economic health.  This action is not a cure-all, but it is an important step that will help support our ailing signature industry.

I fully support the Commission’s actions today, and will continue to do everything in my power to see that we retain the title of 'Horse Capital of the World'.”
