Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on July 20

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 19, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Pfc. Benjamin J. Park, 25, of Fairfax Station, Va., died June 18 at Zhari district, Kandahar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.  He was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Burial services for Pfc. Park will be held on July 20 at 1 p.m. Eastern time at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.  Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
