Gov. Beshear reminds flood victims of today’s deadline to register for assistance
FRANKFORT, Ky. —Governor Steve Beshear today reminded individuals who experienced flood damage this spring that they may be eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), but the deadline to register with FEMA ends today. FEMA will accept registrations through 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT this evening.
“If you were affected by this disaster you should register, even if you’re not sure if you qualify,” said Gov. Beshear. “FEMA will decide your eligibility.”
Registering for disaster assistance is simple. You can apply online anytime at http://www.disasterassistance.gov/, or by phone at 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 800-462-7585. Phone lines are open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EDT.
Some people may think they are already registered because they registered with the Commonwealth, their local emergency management agency, the Red Cross or other charitable organization. The FEMA process is completely separate. The only two ways to register with FEMA are by phone using the toll-free number or online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov/.
People with insurance should register. FEMA cannot duplicate coverage from insurance, but policy holders may be reimbursed for some uninsured losses after the insurance settlement is final. It is important to keep receipts for all disaster-related expenses.
