Governor Beshear makes appointments to Boards and Commissions
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions:
Gov. Beshear has reappointed Tom H. Litzler to the Egg Marketing Board to serve for a term expiring May 7, 2013.
- Tom H. Litzler, of Fort Wright, is a government liaison with Remke Markets Inc.
Gov. Beshear has appointed Joel M. Oney to the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation Board of Directors to serve for a term expiring June 26, 2014.
- Joel M. Oney, of Georgetown, is a regional vice president for Farm Credit Services. He represents farm credit association officers. The appointment replaces Bobby J. Gaslin, whose term has expired.
Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Statewide Independent Living Council to serve for terms expiring May 20, 2013:
- Benita Jean Lind, of Union, is retired. The appointment replaces John Sterner, whose term has expired.
- Sharli Powell Rogers, of Bowling Green, is executive director of the Disability Resource Initiative. The appointment replaces Sandra Goodwyn, whose term has expired.
The governor has reappointed the following members to the council to serve for terms expiring May 20, 2013:
- Nancy J. Perry, of Franklin.
- F. Darrell Mattingly Jr., of Lexington is a computer specialist at the University of Kentucky.
- Jimmy S. Wise, of Richmond, is retired.
Gov. Beshear has reappointed Roy E. Rich to the Pest Control Advisory Board to serve for a term expiring June 17, 2012.
- Roy E. Rich, of Elizabethtown, is the owner and manager of Elizabethtown Exterminating Company. He represents the pest control industry.
Gov. Beshear has appointed Ellen Hesen to the Waterfront Development Corporation Board of Directors.
- Ellen Hesen, of Louisville, is general counsel for the office of Gov. Beshear. She represents the governor’s office.
Gov. Beshear has reappointed Peter E. Brown to the Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission to serve for a term expiring July 1, 2013.
- Peter E. Brown, of Lexington, is a self-employed attorney. He represents members at-large.
Gov. Beshear has reappointed the following members to the Kentucky Tobacco Research Board to serve for terms expiring July 15, 2012:
- Brian Scott Travis, of Cox’s Creek, is a self-employed farmer.
- Paige Shumate Short, of Paris, is president of Kentucky Textiles Technology.
- Roger Thomas, of Smiths Grove, is executive director of the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy.
Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Kentucky State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children:
- Wendy A. Everly, of Central City, is a homemaker. The appointment replaces Gloria D. Sharp, whose term has expired. Everly shall serve for a term expiring Aug. 8, 2012.
- Constance L. Hardesty, of Winchester, is an associate professor of sociology at Morehead State University. She represents parents. The appointment replaces Anna Winchell, whose term has expired. Hardesty shall serve for a term expiring Aug. 8, 2012.
- Michael Allen Armstrong, of Louisa, is a retired educator. He represents local education officials. The appointment replaces Lynn D. Gagle, whose term has expired. Armstrong shall serve for a term expiring Aug. 8, 2012.
- Stella W. Smith, of Lexington, is special education parent resource coordinator with Fayette County Public Schools. She represents parents. The appointment replaces Linda K. Farris, whose term has expired. Smith shall serve for a term expiring Aug. 8, 2012.
- Nicole Fenty, of Louisville, is an assistant professor at the University of Louisville. She represents faculty from higher education. The appointment replaces Karen H. Frohoff, whose term has expired. Fenty shall serve for a term expiring Aug. 8, 2012.
- Leisa Smith Hutchison, of Bowling Green, is a speech pathologist and an instructor at Western Kentucky University. She represents parents. The appointment replaces Roberta Alston, whose term has expired. Hutchison shall serve for a term expiring Aug. 8, 2012.
- Martha Slemp, of Lawrenceburg, is a corrections education branch manager with the Kentucky Department of Corrections. She represents juvenile justice. The appointment replaces Norman Caldwell, who has resigned. Slemp shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term ending Aug. 8, 2010.
The governor has reappointed the following members to the panel to serve for terms expiring Aug. 8, 2012:
- Melanie Tyner-Wilson, of Lexington, is a program coordinator and outreach specialist with the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center at the University of Kentucky. She represents parents.
- Vickie L. Nicholson, of Manchester, is special education teacher in Clay County. She represents parents.
- James J. Reed, of Bowling Green, is retired. He represents parents.
Gov. Beshear has appointed Aaron A. Price to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2011.
- Aaron A. Price, of Louisville, is a student at the University of Louisville. He represents students who attend state institutions of postsecondary education. The appointment replaces Christopher J. Crumrine.
Gov. Beshear has appointed Cecil F. Dunn to the Personnel Board to serve for a term expiring Jan. 1, 2014.
- Cecil F. Dunn, of Lexington, is an attorney and the chief executive officer of Hope Center Inc. The appointment replaces Betty M. Gibson, whose term has expired.
Gov. Beshear has appointed William G. Francis to the Executive Branch Ethics Commission to serve for a term expiring July 14, 2014.
- William G. Francis, of Prestonsburg, is an attorney with Francis, Kendrick & Francis. He represents the governor. The appointment replaces Gwendolyn R. Pinson, whose term has expired.
Gov. Beshear has reappointed Tim T. Shaughnessy to the Southern Regional Education Board to serve for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
- Tim T. Shaughnessy, of Louisville, is member of the Kentucky General Assembly representing the 19th Senate District.
Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Kentucky Advisory Council for Gifted and Talented Education to serve for terms expiring Dec. 15, 2012:
- Dina C. Chaffin, of Louisa, is the district gifted and talented coordinator in Lawrence County. She represents elementary teachers. The appointment replaces Bobbie Jo Henry, whose term has expired.
- Candace James, of Lexington, is an associate director for state and federal programs for Fayette County public schools. She represents gifted and talented coordinators. The appointment replaces Julia H. Moore, whose term has expired.
- Mason J. Dyer, of Lexington, works for the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities. He represents private postsecondary education institutions. The appointment replaces Gary Cox, whose term has expired.
- Julia H. Moore, of Russell, is a gifted education coordinator for Russell Independent Schools. She represents parents. The appointment replaces Shallon M. Creek, whose term has expired.
- Anne S. Stephens, of Greenup, is the art director for the Raceland-Worthington Board of Education. She represents visual and performing arts. The appointment replaces Jan W. Lanham, whose term has expired.
Gov. Beshear has reappointed the following members to the council to serve for terms expiring Dec. 15, 2012:
- Mary Evans, of Bowling Green, is the principal at Cumberland Trace Elementary School in Warren County. She represents principals.
- Jennifer L. Chaplin, of Monticello, is the gifted and talented coordinator for Monticello Independent Schools. She represents gifted and talented teachers.
- Susanne M. Burkhardt, of Louisville, is the student achievement consultant at Southside Elementary in Shelby County. She represents parents.
Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the School Curriculum, Assessment and Accountability Council to serve for terms expiring April 30, 2012:
- David R. Higgins, of Georgetown, is an engineer with CMTA Inc. He represents parents. The appointment replaces Diane K. Thiede, whose term has expired.
- Phyllis E. Young, of Georgetown, is member of the Scott County School Board. She represents school board members. The appointment replaces Karen S. Byrd, whose term has expired.
- Jon R. Akers Jr., of Versailles, is principal at Woodford County High School. He represents principals. The appointment replaces Ronald R. Ortiz, whose term has expired.
- Polly Lusk Page, of Villa Hills, is the executive director of the P-20 Council. She represents members at-large. The appointment replaces Carolyn M. Honcell, whose term has expired.
The governor has reappointed the following members to the council to serve for terms expiring April 30, 2012:
- Patrice McCrary, of Bowling Green, is teacher at Cumberland Trace Elementary in Warren County. She represents teachers.
- Denise Whitaker, of Murray, is principal at Farmington Elementary in Graves County. She represents principals.
- Edward Bradley Reeves, of Morehead, is professor at Morehead State University. He represents university professors with expertise in assessment and measurement.
- Lu Settles Young, of Nicholasville, is superintendent of Jessamine County public schools. She represents superintendents.
- Pennye S. Rogers, of Greenville, is teacher at Todd County Central High School. She represents teachers.
- Sara B. Call, of Frankfort, is member of the Frankfort Independent Schools Board. She represents school board members.
- Jana Beth Francis, of Owensboro, is the director of assessment, research and curriculum for Daviess County public schools. She represents school district assessment coordinators.
- Ben Richard Oldham, of Lexington, is a professor at Georgetown College. He represents university professors with expertise in assessment and measurement.
- Sheldon H. Berman, of Louisville, is superintendent of Jefferson County public schoools. He represents superintendents.
- Sandra T. Shepherd, of Louisville, is a designer with Cross Works Design. She represents parents.
- Joseph L. Hicks, of Bardstown, is the chief executive officer of Salt River Electric Cooperative Corporation. He represents employees in the state.
- Carl H. Wicklund, of Independence, is the plant manager at Wagstaff Inc. He represents employers in the state.
- Catherine Anne Hacker, of Salt Lick, is a school psychologist and district assessment coordinator for Menifee County public schools. She represents school district assessment coordinators.
Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Board of Directors of the Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easement Corporation:
- David McGlone, of Grayson, is a farmer. He represents the Kentucky Farm Bureau. The appointment replaces James R. Mahan, whose term has expired. McGlone shall serve for a term expiring April 12, 2014.
- Ronald Hargett, of Bowling Green, is a farmer. He represents the Second Congressional District. The appointment replaces Thomas M. Baker, who has resigned. Hargett shall serve for the remainder of the unexpired term ending April 14, 2011.
The governor has reappointed the following members to the board to serve for terms expiring April 12, 2014:
- Bige Hensley, of Manchester, is a farmer. He represents the Fifth Congressional District.
- Frances A. Brown, of Russellville, is a farmer. She represents the First Congressional District.
Gov. Beshear has appointed the following members to the Martin Luther King Jr. State Commission for terms expiring Dec. 12, 2013:
- Eileen Cackowski, of Frankfort, is director of Kentucky AmeriCorps. The appointment replaces Alvin Wayne Farris.
- Vivian L. Johnson, of Frankfort, is a supervisor at the Kentucky Office of Employment Training. The appointment replaces Katherine C. Hart.
- Kirby Bennett, of Maysville. The appointment replaces Emery Scott Lee.
