Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on July 2

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, July 2, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, 1st Sgt. Robert N. Barton, 35, of Roxie, Miss., died June 7 in Konar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for 1st Sgt. Barton will be held on July 2 at 10 a.m. Central time at First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, Ky. Burial services will immediately follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
