FRANKFORT, Ky.  –Gov. Steve Beshear today appointed five members to the Kentucky Parole Board, creating a membership he said “is more diverse and better reflective of Kentucky’s citizens.”

Gov. Beshear noted that with these appointments, the board, which will be comprised of five men and four women, will have three African-American members, and one Hispanic member.  The board members also have a broad range of disciplines, including education and social work, in addition to corrections and legal backgrounds.

“We continue to review all aspects of our criminal justice system to make it more effective and more efficient, and one area where we can have a dramatic impact is our parole board,” Gov. Beshear said.  “As we deal with an increasingly diverse prison population, having a diverse membership in terms of age, race and background gives the board a constructive balance in making decisions.”
