Governor Orders Flags to Half-Staff on May 31
FRANKFORT, Ky. –Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be displayed at half-staff until noon on Monday, May 31, 2010 in observance of Memorial Day.
Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service. In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries.
“Memorial Day allows us to honor and remember the military officers who have passed while in service for our country,” said Gov. Beshear. “I urge all Kentuckians to take a moment on Monday between the parades and the grilling, and give thanks to the many men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our freedoms.”
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
Flag status information is available at www.governor.ky.gov.
