Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on March 12

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, March 12, 2010  in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. Vincent L.C. Owens, 21, of Fort Smith, Ark., died March 1 of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle using direct fire in Yosuf Khel, Agfhanistan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Burial services for Sgt. Owens will be held March 12 at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on that day.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
