Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on February 17
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 in honor of a Kentucky native soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. 1st Class Matthew S. Sluss-Tiller, 35, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Feb. 3 with two other soldiers from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device in Timagara, Pakistan. He was assigned to the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
Funeral services for Sgt. 1st Class Sluss-Tiller will be Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Burnaugh Baptist Church in Louisa, Ky. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on that day.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
