Governor Beshear Recognizes Sacrifice of Kentucky Casualty
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 5, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today recognized the sacrifice of a Kentucky native soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. 1st Class Matthew S. Sluss-Tiller, 35, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Feb. 3 with two other soldiers from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device in Timagara, Pakistan. He was assigned to the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
The governor will order that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of Sgt. 1st Class Sluss-Tiller’s interment for which arrangements are still pending.
