| Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) announced today a $625,000 Community Development Block Grant for Daviess County. The CDBG funds will help construct the Highway 60 and Westerfield Drive sewer project.
This sewer project will address the area’s wastewater treatment needs that have been unmet by a system of failing septic systems. Deteriorating septic tanks have created unsafe and unsanitary conditions in the area. Straight pipes have also contributed to the pollution of the Ohio River. The construction and extension of sewer mains throughout the affected area will address these problems.
“Every Kentuckian deserves to have a sewage treatment system that is safe,” Governor Ernie Fletcher said. “This grant will improve health and sanitation in Daviess County and reduce pollution problems caused by straight line sewers.”
Community Development Block Grants are federal monies procured through the efforts of Kentucky’s U.S. Congressional leaders. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development makes these funds available through GOLD, which administers the CDBG Small Cities program in Kentucky.
