| Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) announced today a $19,000 Recreational Trails grant for Menifee and Bath Counties. The funds help maintain existing multi-use trails in the Morehead Ranger District.
There are four miles of existing non-motorized recreational trails that require maintenance. These trails are linked to others in the area and used for walking, jogging, hiking, overnight and long distance backpacking, bicycling, mountain biking and equestrian activities.
“Maintaining our existing facilities is equally as important as building new ones,” Governor Fletcher said. “We must remain committed to the investments we have made in our communities.”
The Recreational Trails Program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and may be used to acquire land for recreational trails and to develop and renovate trails for both motorized and non-motorized use. Recreational Trails funding is administered by the Governor’s Office for Local Development.
