FRANKFORT, Ky. – First Lady Jane Beshear today announced that Horses and Hope has been named the official charity of the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, presented by Land Rover.  All proceeds raised for Horses and Hope will go directly toward a new mobile screening van equipped to screen for seven cancer types.

“We are so grateful to be named the official charity of the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event,” Mrs. Beshear said.  “Horses and Hope is focused on increasing breast cancer awareness and educating Kentuckians and at-risk populations about the importance of prevention, screening and early detection. Our partnership with ‘Rolex Kentucky’ will help us bring this important message to the thousands of equestrian enthusiasts who will be attending this world-class event.”

Equestrian Events Inc. (EEI), producer of the prestigious international event, has a long history of making financial contributions to charities that support local equine interests and serve the Commonwealth

“EEI has always given back to the community through regular charitable donations. In addition to those donations, we decided last year to name an annual official charity so we could make an even more meaningful impact and bring much needed awareness to these organizations,” explained Stewart Perry, president of the EEI board of directors. “Horses and Hope is a perfect choice for the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event considering the Governor and First Lady’s deep involvement with the Kentucky Horse Park and the important work Horses and Hope is doing.”

The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event returns to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington April 23-26.  On April 23, EEI and Rolex will be hosting an exclusive event at the Governor’s Mansion, where a small number of Maker’s Mark Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event commemorative bottles will be auctioned off.  Tickets to the evening event are $200 per individual and $300 per couple, with each ticket including a $100 voucher that may go towards the purchase of a commemorative bottle. All event proceeds will go to Horses and Hope.  For more information, contact the ticket line at 859-254-8123.

Horses and Hope
The mission of Horses and Hope is to work alongside the state’s equine industry to provide breast cancer awareness, education, screenings, and treatment referrals. Since the program was founded in 2008 by the Office of the First Lady and the Kentucky Cancer Program, Horses and Hope has reached nearly 1 million race track and horse show attendees and educated nearly 16,000 equine employees. The program has screened more than 700 workers and detected breast cancer in three individuals, who have all received treatment.

This January, Horses and Hope announced a new partnership with KentuckyOne Health, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville and the Kentucky Cancer Program, to raise $1 million for a new mobile cancer screening van equipped to screen for seven different cancers.  This new van will help Horses and Hope expand beyond the equine industry to provide education, resource referral and screenings to at-risk populations across Kentucky.

EEI
Equestrian Events Inc. (EEI) is a non-profit charitable Kentucky corporation that was established initially to produce the 1978 World Three-Day Event Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park. Following the success of those championships, EEI established an annual event that quickly evolved into what is today the only four-star three-day event in the western hemisphere, the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by Land Rover.

Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event
The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event is one of the world’s most prestigious equestrian competitions and features the world’s best horses and riders vying for their share of $300,000 in prize money as well as a shot at the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, which is awarded to any rider who wins the Rolex Kentucky, Mitsubishi Motors Badminton and Land Rover Burghley Four Star Events in succession. The 2015 Event is also an official selection trial for the US Eventing Team and will help determine which US riders will be chosen to compete at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, next July.
