State employees’ paychecks will not be delayed
FRANKFORT, Ky.—Kentucky state government employees should anticipate no delay in the delivery of their July 15th paychecks. Employees will receive their checks or direct deposits as they normally would, according to the Treasurer’s Office, Finance Cabinet and Personnel Cabinet.
State Treasurer Jonathan Miller, Finance and Administration Secretary John Farris and Personnel Cabinet Secretary Brian Crall joined together today to respond to state employee concerns following news reports of the possible delay in the delivery of state employee paychecks.
In an e-mail memo to all state government employees, Miller, Farris and Crall said, “Our agencies have been working diligently, some working around the clock over the course of the last few days, to ensure the timely dissemination of state payroll checks.”
The message from Miller, Farris and Crall went on to say that “no problems or delays exist with regard to any state employees who have elected for their checks to be direct deposited. All direct deposited checks will be delivered to their financial institution as usual. The Treasurer’s Office has completed the printing of paychecks for employees who do not have direct deposit. These checks are currently being sorted and distributed to payroll officers in each agency.”
Kentucky state government employees receive paychecks bimonthly; on the 15th and 30th of each month. This payroll period marks the first since the commonwealth implemented a new statewide accounting system on July 1. The state issues approximately 48,000 payments during each pay period to employees in all branches of government, including boards and commissions. Nearly 70 percent of these are electronic fund transfers or direct deposits. The remaining checks are traditional, paper checks that must be deposited by the employee.
