FRANKFORT, Ky.-The number of classroom hours of supervised instruction in a massage therapy training program required for licensure as a massage therapist will increase from 500 to 600 hours effective June 25, 2005.

In order to meet the requirements to practice massage therapy, and, if applicable, to maintain eligibility for licensure under the “grandfather” provision, applicants must comply with one of the following:

(1) If licensure as a massage therapist was obtained pursuant to KRS 309.358(1) or 390.360, submit $75 initial license fee postmarked on or before June 24, 2005.  If this fee is received after the June 24, 2005 deadline, a new application and application fee must be submitted.  Also, the requirements of KRS 309.358(2) must be met.

(2) If licensure as a massage therapist is applied for pursuant to KRS 309.358(2), submit $75 initial license fee postmarked on or before June 24, 2005.  If this fee is received after the June 24, 2005 deadline, a new application and application fee must be submitted.

After June 24, 2005, all requirements for licensure must be met before practicing massage therapy in Kentucky. Questions or concerns regarding the licensing of massage therapists should be directed to the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Massage Therapy at (502) 564-3296, ext. 240.
