Kentucky River Authority to Announce 2012 River Sweep

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 8, 2012) –The Kentucky River Authority (KRA) invites media to attend the announcement of the 2012 River Sweep for the Kentucky River Basin on Monday, June 11, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Fort Boonesborough State Park Beach. There will be an opportunity for members of the media to travel by boat to take pre-cleanup photos of the Kentucky River in Pool 9.

The Kentucky River Sweep will be held June 16 in 32 counties in the Kentucky River Basin.  During this annual river sweep, volunteers have removed tons of trash and debris, including household appliances, automobiles and recyclable items from the river and its tributaries.

The Kentucky River Sweep is a cooperative effort of the Kentucky River Authority and the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission. To learn more about the sweep and for a list of participating counties, visit http://finance.ky.gov/offices/Pages/KentuckyRiverAuthority.aspx.
