Winners announced in Kentucky Green Team Online Film Festival
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
$1,000 awarded to each winner
FRANKFORT, Ky. — After 5,000 votes from the public and voting from a panel of celebrity judges, the winners have been chosen in each category of the First Annual Kentucky Green Team Online Film Festival. The Online Film Festival is a popular new initiative of First Lady Jane Beshear’s Green Team, designed to inspire, teach and encourage individuals to take steps to improve our environment. Seventy films were entered and the “directors” ranged from groups of school kids, Girl and Boy Scout troops, to seasoned filmmakers. The winners in this year’s festival are: Public Service Announcement - “Energy PSA” created by Sellus Wilder, a Frankfort city commissioner. Environmentally Friendly Habits Film – “Going Green” created by The Indicators, a Louisville improvisational comedy troupe. Energy-Saving Innovation Short Film – “Community Garden” also created by Sellus Wilder.
The winning film in each category will receive a $1,000 cash prize, sponsored by the Louisville Film Society.
However, this year, a Louisville Middle school will also benefit from participating in this competition. Ohio Valley Creative Energy (OVCE), in conjunction with art students from Meyzeek Middle School, was a finalist in the Energy-Saving Innovation Short Film and narrowly lost to Sellus Wilder’s entry, “Community Garden.” Wilder is donating half of the monetary prize in that category to the art program at Meyzeek. “There were a lot of great submissions, and I can’t hog two awards,” said Wilder. “Meyzeek created a brilliant submission, with help from OVCE, about using methane from a landfill to power an educational art studio. Art is a powerful teaching tool that remains underused and Meyzeek deserves recognition for successfully using art to teach sustainability.” Wilder says the other half of the prize will go toward Frankfort’s Community gardens.
