FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky Department of Revenue is providing extended individual income tax assistance service by telephone beginning Thursday, April 1, 2004, through the filing deadline of Thursday, April 15, 2004. Taxpayers needing assistance should call (502) 564-4581. This telephone line is open weekdays from 8 a.m. EST to 6:00 p.m. EST to assist individuals with preparing their individual income tax returns. The Department provides general information and answers to technical questions.

During this period, in-person/one-on-one assistance in preparing 2003 Kentucky individual income tax returns is available weekdays at any of the Department’s 10 taxpayer service centers during regular hours from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. local time. Individuals needing this type of assistance must bring completed copies of their 2003 federal income tax return with all accompanying federal schedules.

On Thursday, April 15, 2004, hours for telephone and in-person assistance at each taxpayer service center will be extended until 6:00 p.m. local time.

Taxpayers who wish to check the refund status of a filed 2003 Kentucky return should call the Department’s Automated Refund and Tax Information System (ARTIS) at (502) 564-1600, rather than the taxpayer assistance line. ARTIS is available 24 hours a day; 7 days a week. All you need is the social security number shown first on the return and the whole dollar amount of the refund.
