• State employee charity bucks the trend, exceeds last year’s collection

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 19, 2009) – Although many human services nonprofit organizations are being forced to cut services and expenses due to a decrease in fundraising efforts, the 2009 Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign (KECC) managed to surpass the amount raised in 2008.
• Governor’s Garden expands to include fruit trees

  Today students from Western Hills High School’s Agricultural Education classes and the Future Farmers of America (FFA) club worked with Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Jonathan Miller to plant 24 fruit trees as an expansion of the Governor’s Garden, located on the grounds of the state-owned Berry Mansion.

  The Governor’s Garden, located on the grounds of the state-owned Berry Mansion, has donated approximately 375 pounds of produce to the Access Soup Kitchen in downtown Frankfort, with 565 pounds harvested overall, since the first seeds were planted last spring. On Thursday, Nov. 19, the garden will expand to include 24 fruit trees.

• State Seeking Donation for Commonwealth Holiday Tree

  The Commonwealth of Kentucky is looking for a property owner who is willing to donate a tree that will stand in front of the State Capitol as the Commonwealth Holiday tree. The tree will be decorated and lit during a ceremony the first week of December.
• Surplus property auctions produce revenue for state agencies

  The Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet, Division of Surplus Properties, conducted two auctions in the past week netting over $110,000. Two more auctions are scheduled in November.

  The Finance and Administration Cabinet, Division of Surplus Property, will conduct a live auction for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources on Monday, Oct. 26 at the Fish and Wildlife Headquarters located at 1 Sportsman's Lane, Frankfort, Ky, 40601, within the Salato Wildlife Center.
• Gov. Beshear recognizes green collar jobs resulting from stimulus investments

  Gov. Steve Beshear today joined members of the Clean Energy Corps at the JD Patton Area Technology Center in Northern Kentucky to recognize the first class of energy auditors to receive training for green jobs as a part of America’s Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
