Dow Corning Carrollton plant receives Governor's Safety and Health Award
CARROLLTON, Ky. (June 16, 2006) – Dow Corning Corp., whose employees have worked more than 2 million hours without a “lost-time” injury or illness at the company’s plant in Carrollton, has received a Governor’s Safety and Health Award for 2006.
The award is given to employers and employees who together have achieved a specified streak of hours worked without a lost-time episode or who have gone one year without a recordable injury or illness.
Dow Corning is an international company headquartered in Midland, Mich. Its plant at Carrollton was established in 1966 and produces silicones that are used in approximately 4,000 products. The Carrollton plant has been a member of the Voluntary Protection Partnership program of the Kentucky Department of Labor since 1997.
Corden Porter, deputy commissioner of the department, an agency of the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet, presented the award Thursday, June 15, to company managers and employees.
“Improving workplace safety is one of the overarching goals of our cabinet,” Porter said. “That reflects Governor Fletcher’s belief that a healthy economy requires a safe and healthy work force. We are pleased that Dow Corning shares that vision.”
