FRANKFORT, Ky. – Berea College’s fascinating history is the subject of the 19th annual Public Archives Symposium Thursday Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. Shannon H. Wilson will discuss research for his book, “Berea College: An Illustrated History,” published by the University Press of Kentucky in 2006.

Wilson, head of Special Collections and Archives at Berea College’s Hutchins Library, is uniquely qualified to discuss researching the history of Berea College. In addition to his almost 20-year career with Berea College’s archives and special collections, Wilson is a graduate of the college.

The symposium, a yearly event sponsored by the Friends of Kentucky Public Archives Inc. in cooperation with the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA), brings recent historical books to a wider audience and increases the public's awareness of historical records available for research in Kentucky archival and manuscript repositories.

The symposium is at the West Lot Dwelling at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. It will be preceded by lunch at the Trustees' Office at 11:30 a.m. The symposium is free and open to public. There is a $25 charge for lunch. Additional symposium information and a registration form may be found at http://www.kdla.ky.gov/events/2007symposium.htm or call 502.564.8300 x. 252.
