OVR, SILC to hold public hearing Oct. 2

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 1, 2015) - The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) and the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) will hold a public hearing from 1 - 3 p.m. EST on Oct. 2, concerning proposed changes to the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). The public hearing will be held at the Human Development Institute of the University of Kentucky, Coldstream Campus, 1525 Bull Lea Road, Suite 160, Lexington. The public can also participate through live video streaming at the following locations:

The proposals involve: 1) changing the designated state unit, the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, to the designated state entity, the Department of Aging and Independent Living; and 2) the availability of Social Security Reimbursement funds to support activities of the SILC and the state’s Centers for Independent Living.

The three-year plan is designed to increase awareness, effectiveness and access to independent living services for Kentuckians with disabilities and to promote advocacy activities. The entire SPIL can be accessed at or a copy can be requested by calling 1-800-372-7172.
