KET remembers Dr. Thomas Clark with new programs, special encore airings this week
In memory of Dr. Thomas D. Clark, KET will adjust its programming schedule this week to present a new interview program with Dr. Clark, a special edition of Comment on Kentucky and encore airings of programs that have featured Dr. Clark and celebrated his life and work.
“Dr. Clark was a remarkable scholar and wonderful person,” said KET Executive Director Malcolm Wall. “We are honored to have these programs to not only remember the legacy of Dr. Clark for today’s viewers but to share and pass on to many future generations of Kentuckians the passion and dedication he brought to documenting the rich history of our state.”
A new program, Thomas Clark: In His Own Words, features interviews with Dr. Clark taped over the last two years. Premiering Saturday, July 2 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and airing again Sunday, July 3 at 4/3 p.m. CT on KET1, the program features Dr. Clark speaking on a number of subjects, including his family history, growing up in the rural South, politics and Kentucky’s successes and failures through the years.
Comment on Kentucky, airing Friday at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1, will dedicate a large portion of the program to remembering Dr. Clark and will also include a special tribute by Al Smith.
Encore presentations include For Generations To Come: The Wisdom of Thomas Clark, a 1996 documentary by Arthur Rouse profiling the life and work of Dr. Clark. Told largely in Clark’s own words, the documentary also includes interviews with former Kentucky first lady Libby Jones, former governor Ned Breathitt, authors John Egerton and Bill Cunningham, and others. Narrated by Bob Edwards, the program airs on KET1 Wednesday, June 29 at 9/8 p.m. CT and Sunday, July 3 at 3/2 p.m. CT.
bookclub@ket encores its discussion of Thomas D. Clark of Kentucky: An Uncommon Life in the Commonwealth. Edited by John E. Kleber, this book was published in honor of Dr. Clark’s 100th birthday and features historians, journalists, former students and others reflecting on Dr. Clark as researcher and writer and as teacher and friend. The program airs Saturday, July 2 at 5:30/4:30 p.m. CT on KET1.
