KENTUCKY DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RECOGNIZES LOCAL REGIONAL RESPONSE MANAGER'S ACHIEVEMENTS
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 14, 2010) - Recently Kentucky Division of Emergency Management (KYEM) Regional Response Managers (RRM); Chris Hecker and Vicki Martin, were recognized by KYEM Director, John Heltzel, for achieving RRM Level One.
The RRM Level One is part of a divisional training process that consists of extensive classroom curriculum, field operations and administration. Level One is the first of three level certifications. Each certification level is mentor supervised and builds on the knowledge and experience base established by the previous certification level.
Chris Hecker has been employed with Kentucky Division of Emergency Management since early 2007, initially as a Duty Officer in the Commonwealth Emergency Communications Information Center (CECIC). Upon the retirement of former KYEM Area 9 Manager, Roy Benge, Hecker was chosen for the position. He began his duties as Region 8 Regional Response Manager in June 2009.
When asked what the certification meant to him personally, Hecker said, "The certification process was important to me because I wanted to have all the knowledge available to assist me in being the best Regional Response Manager possible. The experience and knowledge gained through the certification program will help me serve the Commonweath and my regional counties better."
Vicki Martin has been with KYEM for 8 years. She began her KYEM career as an Office Coordinator in the Area 2 office. Martin was promoted to KYEM Training Development Specialist in March 2009 for the Western Kentucky Region. Upon the retirement of KYEM Area 2 Manager, Jere McCuiston, Martin was chosen the RRM for Region 2 in June 2009. She is near completion of the RRM Level Two and expects to acquire that designation soon.
"The additional training required enables me to be better prepared to assist not only the citizens of Region 2, but across the Commonwealth, as well," said Martin.
"I am very proud of Chris and Vicki," said KYEM Director John Heltzel. "Their actions prove their commitment to strive to be the best they can be. KYEM and the Commonwealth of Kentucky are fortunate to have them and others like them serving to move our division forward and make our communities safer."
