• Flooding Occurring in Eastern Kentucky

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 17, 2013) – Kentucky Emergency Management is closely monitoring flooding in several eastern Kentucky counties as a result of heavy rains that moved across the state last night. Strong thunderstorms capable of producing strong winds and heavy rains are forecast for much of the Commonwealth over the next few days.

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 5, 2013) - Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are teaming up to promote National Severe Weather Preparedness Week March 3-9. Sponsored by FEMA and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Severe Weather Preparedness Week encourages individuals, families, businesses and communities to know about severe weather risks, take action to prepare for them, and “Be a Force of Nature” by encouraging others to get prepared.
• 2013 TORNADO SAFETY DRILL IS TOMORROW

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 4, 2013) - The Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee, working with Kentucky Emergency Management and the National Weather Service Office, will conduct a statewide tornado safety drill March 5 at approximately 10:07 a.m. EST. The drill will be triggered by the National Weather Service offices within Kentucky, using a code that will activate weather alert radios, outdoor warning sirens and various media broadcast warning messages.

(Feb. 28, 2013) – Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) hosted a Severe Weather Tabletop Exercise this week at the Commonwealth Emergency Operations Center (CEOC), located in Frankfort at Kentucky National Guard Boone Center. Other partners participated in various locations at the statewide and local levels.

The show was part of the state’s efforts to highlight March as Severe Weather Awareness Month in Kentucky.

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 21, 2013) – Severe weather remains the biggest and most common threat Kentuckians face on a daily basis, according to the Kentucky Department of Emergency Management. Last year’s strong storms and tornadoes that ravaged the Commonwealth Feb. 29 and March 2 are a reminder of how severe weather can impact Kentucky. Those storms left 25 dead, hundreds homeless and thousands of homes damaged.

  FRANKFORT, KY. (Jan. 30, 2013) - No confirmed tornadoes or widespread damage has been reported to Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) after last night's storms moved through the Commonwealth. Local officials have submitted reports of scattered damages, mostly due to high winds. Most reports are in western Kentucky.
