- Flooding Occurring in Eastern Kentucky
Wednesday, April 17, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 17, 2013) – Kentucky Emergency Management is closely monitoring flooding in several eastern Kentucky counties as a result of heavy rains that moved across the state last night. Strong thunderstorms capable of producing strong winds and heavy rains are forecast for much of the Commonwealth over the next few days.

Tuesday, March 05, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 5, 2013) - Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are teaming up to promote National Severe Weather Preparedness Week March 3-9. Sponsored by FEMA and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Severe Weather Preparedness Week encourages individuals, families, businesses and communities to know about severe weather risks, take action to prepare for them, and “Be a Force of Nature” by encouraging others to get prepared.
- 2013 TORNADO SAFETY DRILL IS TOMORROW
Monday, March 04, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 4, 2013) - The Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee, working with Kentucky Emergency Management and the National Weather Service Office, will conduct a statewide tornado safety drill March 5 at approximately 10:07 a.m. EST. The drill will be triggered by the National Weather Service offices within Kentucky, using a code that will activate weather alert radios, outdoor warning sirens and various media broadcast warning messages.

Saturday, March 02, 2013 FRANKFORT, KY. (Feb. 28, 2013) – Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) hosted a Severe Weather Tabletop Exercise this week at the Commonwealth Emergency Operations Center (CEOC), located in Frankfort at Kentucky National Guard Boone Center. Other partners participated in various locations at the statewide and local levels.

(Feb. 28, 2013) – Earlier this week, Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and the Kentucky Weather Preparedness Committee (KWPC) teamed up with Kentucky Educational Television to host the KET Show, Severe Weather – Staying Safe! The show was part of the state’s efforts to highlight March as Severe Weather Awareness Month in Kentucky.
- Kentucky Emergency Management Director Named to National Committee
Thursday, February 28, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb 28, 2013) – Kentucky Emergency Management Director John Heltzel was recently named to the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC), which is comprised of 40 representatives of public safety organizations across the nation.
- Gov. Beshear Declares March Severe Weather Awareness Month
Thursday, February 21, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 21, 2013) – Severe weather remains the biggest and most common threat Kentuckians face on a daily basis, according to the Kentucky Department of Emergency Management. Last year’s strong storms and tornadoes that ravaged the Commonwealth Feb. 29 and March 2 are a reminder of how severe weather can impact Kentucky. Those storms left 25 dead, hundreds homeless and thousands of homes damaged.
- The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut Earthquake Safety Drill is 1 Day Away
Wednesday, February 06, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2013) - Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11:15 a.m. Eastern time, as part of Earthquake Awareness Month in Kentucky, everyone is encouraged to participate in the "Drop, Cover and Hold On" Earthquake Safety Drill as part of the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, and register participation at: http://www.shakeout.org/centralus/register/ .
- SCATTERED DAMAGE REPORTED AFTER OVERNIGHT STORMS
Wednesday, January 30, 2013 FRANKFORT, KY. (Jan. 30, 2013) - No confirmed tornadoes or widespread damage has been reported to Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) after last night's storms moved through the Commonwealth. Local officials have submitted reports of scattered damages, mostly due to high winds. Most reports are in western Kentucky.

- Great Central U.S. 'ShakeOut' is Just a Month Away
Tuesday, January 08, 2013 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan 8, 2013) - In just one month, hundreds of communities throughout a nine state region will participate in a region wide earthquake drill during the third annual “Great Central U.S. ShakeOut.” At 10:15 a.m. (Central Time) on Feb 7, 2013, millions of people will practice the recommended safety action in the event of an earthquake, “Drop, Cover and Hold On.” During an earthquake, individuals are advised to:
