The Kentucky Virtual Library is pleased to announce the winners of the seventh annual "Create a KYVL Video" contest for students of Kentucky's K-12 public schools. Kentucky Virtual Library holds the contest annually to spotlight the students’ creativity and the coordinators and students of the Student Technology Leadership Program, or STLP™.

The Student Technology Leadership Program is a project-based learning program that empowers students in all grade levels to use technology in and out of the classroom.

Winners from the elementary division include:

  • First place – North Warren Elementary School,
  • Second place – Cumberland Trace Elementary School, and
  • Third place – Erpenbeck Elementary School.

From the middle school division, winners are:

  • First place - Jones Middle School (Team 3),
  • Second place - Drakes Creek Middle School (Team 5), and
  • Third place - Drakes Creek Middle School (Team 4).

The high school division had only award recipient:

  • First place – Greenwood High School (Team 1).

“It is exciting to see the skills these students have learned through STLP,” said Enid Wohlstein, director of the Kentucky Virtual Library. “The levels of creativity and quality in the contest entries are impressive,” she added.

With assistance from their school library media specialist and their program advisor, teams from Student Technology Leadership Programs around the state created KYVL public service announcements, which were judged by the KYVL Information Literacy and Outreach Workgroup. The judges selected winners from each of the three divisions - elementary, middle and high school.

All participating students received letters of recognition, and the winning schools were awarded plaques at the Kentucky STLP State Championship on May 1, 2010.
