CPE's Aaron Thompson to keynote National TRIO Day at EKU
Dr. Aaron Thompson, executive vice president and chief academic officer with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, will serve as keynote speaker for National TRIO Day this Saturday, Feb. 28, on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.
“TRIO is near and dear to my heart,” said Thompson. “I’m looking forward to spending time with these professionals who help our students from underserved families successfully pursue and have success in higher education.”
To celebrate the national day, more than 500 Kentucky TRIO students and staff will gather for various academic competitions, workshops, campus tours, and participate in the Kentucky TRIO Day Academic Competition awards ceremony.
TRIO services include goal setting, tutoring, personal and career counseling, assisting with college and financial aid applications and academic advising. TRIO also provides college preparation, personal development skills, exposure to cultural activities, college visits, academic enhancement activities and financial literacy information. TRIO Programs work with students from sixth grade through college.
