Tim Carman Named Director of DOC’s Division of Probation & Parole
Kentucky Department of Corrections’ Deputy Commissioner Rodney Ballard today announced the appointment of Tim Carman to the position of Director of the agency’s Division of Probation & Parole.
Carman will oversee the Department’s 19 Probation & Parole Supervision Districts and the Division’s 636 officers, supervisors and support staff. He begins his new job on August 16th and he will officially assume the reigns on August 31st following the retirement of Lelia “Lee” VanHoose. VanHoose is retiring from the Department after more than 25 years of service to the agency.
“Tim Carman has served the Division of Probation and Parole with both honor and integrity,” said Ballard. “His experience and dedication to duty make him an invaluable team member and this appointment is well deserved. Carman’s ability to resolve problems will be a definite benefit to the Division of Probation & Parole and the entire Department of Corrections.”
After brief stints working in the Administrative Office of the Courts and in Juvenile Services, Carman began his career with the Department of Corrections in February 1990, working as a Probation and Parole Officer in the Danville Office. Carman then served as Social Services Clinician and was promoted to Assistant Supervisor in September 2004. He was again promoted in 2007, this time to head the division’s Eastern Region as branch manager. He retired from the Department in March of this year.
During his career, Carman served as the District 6 KECC (Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign) Coordinator for 16 consecutive years, and was involved in the implementation of a Drug Court Program. He received DOC’s highest award, “Commissioner’s Awards,” in 1996 and 2006.
Carman attended Eastern Kentucky University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Corrections and a master’s degree in education. He resides in Lincoln County with his wife Linda and two children, Jacob and Julia.
