Howerton Named Deputy Warden at EKCC
Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Department of Corrections Deputy Commissioner George Million today announced that Robert (Rob) V. Howerton has been appointed Deputy Warden of the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty.
“I believe Mr. Howerton will prove to be a valuable member of Kentucky’s correctional management team,” said Million. “He brings a wealth of skills and knowledge to the position.”
Howerton began his career in corrections as a Correctional Officer in 1987 at the Vanderburgh Community Corrections Complex in Evansville, Indiana. In 1989 he began work for the Indiana Department of Correction at the Branchville Correctional Facility (BCF) as a Correctional Officer and was subsequently promoted to Correctional Sergeant in 1991, Correctional Release Coordinator in 1993, Unit Manager II in 1998 and Assistant Superintendent in 2003. As an Assistant Superintendent, he managed all department heads in the facility program areas (Food Service, Medical/Social Services, Recreation, Education, Community Services, Public Information, Policy and Accreditation) and assisted the superintendent in all facility decisions.
Howerton brings with him a wide spectrum of knowledge and experience. Throughout his career in corrections he has specialized in the area of tactical training, K-9 handling, been an active member of the Emergency Squad, BCF Firefighter, and was an ERO member from 1989 to 1998.
Howerton has also served as DOC hostage negotiator, SIT-CON (Situation Control) Team Leader for seven years, Certified DOC Firearms/Chemical Agent Instructor and Trained Public Information Officer (DOC) – Facility PIO. Additionally, he is a Certified ACA Consultant/Auditor Consultant for the American Correctional Association (ACA).
Howerton is a graduate of Indiana University with a concentration in Social Sciences, and a minor in Sociology.
